The West Monroe-West Ouachita Chamber of Commerce congratulates Mayor Staci Mitchell and the City of West Monroe for becoming Louisiana’s first Mainstreet Community since 2014.
Downtown West Monroe is a community attraction that is an inclusive, place-based and people-focused area that reflects on our historic roots while looking ahead to prosperity and new growth. The attractive buildings and streetscape invite residents and visitors to walk, gather for events and festivals, and shop in a variety of intriguing retail businesses.
Downtown West Monroe is also an ideal stop for travelers along I-20. It’s easy to slip off the interstate, experience the historical nature of the district, eat and relax before they get back on their way.
“The impact of Mayor Mitchell’s vision to rebuild and revitalize the downtown historic district will boost the economic footprint of the city for many years to come,” said WMWO Board Chairman Amanda Edge. “The Mayor’s efforts will welcome in a fresh cityscape as well as foster commerce throughout the cultural district.”
This designation provides the business community access an entirely new avenue for capital investment and resources available through state and national Mainstreet Programs, foundations and non-governmental organizations.
