ULM COVID-19 protocols in place for spring 2020 semester: Masks required, vaccines encouraged

University of Louisiana Monroe faculty and staff returned to campus on Monday, a week before classes begin on Jan. 10.

COVID-19 protocols will remain in place for the spring 2022 semester. Following recent changes to the CDC guidelines, the quarantine/isolation period has been reduced from 10 to five days after exposure or a positive COVID-19 test.

MASKS/SOCIAL DISTANCING/HANDWASHING

Students, faculty, and staff – both vaccinated and unvaccinated – shall wear masks in the classroom and indoor public spaces, which includes all food service venues.

Evidence suggests that fully vaccinated people who become infected can spread the virus to others. To reduce their risk of becoming infected and potentially spreading it to others, CDC recommends that fully vaccinated people:

• Wear a mask in public indoor settings if they are in an area of substantial or high transmission. • Get tested if experiencing COVID-19 symptoms.

• Get tested five days following known exposure to someone with suspected or confirmed COVID-19 and wear a mask in public indoor settings for 10 days after exposure or until a negative test result.

• Isolate if they have tested positive for COVID-19 in the previous five days or are experiencing COVID-19 symptoms.

Social distancing of at least 6 feet is encouraged where possible. Wash hands frequently.

NATIONAL GUARD TESTING/VACCINES ON CAMPUS

The Louisiana National Guard provides free testing, vaccines, and boosters to anyone eligible, including community members. The National Guard is located on the second floor of the SUB.

Testing (non-rapid) is offered 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday-Thursday and 8-11:30 a.m. Friday; vaccines and boosters are administered 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday.

COVID-19 VACCINE REQUIRED FOR STUDENTS

The COVID-19 vaccination was added to the required immunizations at all University of Louisiana System member institutions for entering and continuing students. All ULM students (including those completely online) are required to show proof of vaccination against COVID-19 or have an exemption recorded. For the exemption, students may submit a written dissent or a written statement from a physician stating the vaccine is contraindicated for medical reasons. Information about the requirements and the process can be found here: https://www.ulm.edu/coronavirus/information/immunization-proof-waiver.html.

TESTING FOR UNVACCINATED FACULTY AND STAFF

To ensure the safety of our university, unvaccinated faculty and staff are subject to weekly testing per university human resources protocols.

RESIDENTIAL HOUSING

For returning students, residential housing opens Friday, Jan. 7, and for new and transfer students, check in is Saturday, Jan. 8. Check-in is 9 a.m.-4 p.m. on both days at the SUB – 2nd floor. No move-ins will be on Sunday.

All students and anyone assisting them (going into the residence halls) will be administered a rapid test when they report to the SUB. The test must be negative to move in. For more information, visit https://www.ulm.edu/reslife/move-in.html.

TEMPORARY CLOSURES

The Liew International Student Center and the library study rooms are closed temporarily for health precautions.
