The Salvation Army announces its campaign, “Doing the Most Good,” to assist families located in northeast Louisiana in anticipation of the holiday season. The campaign consists of the annual Red Kettle bell ringing initiative and the Angel Tree project in which volunteers, community, and business support are needed.
The Red Kettle Kickoff event will take place in celebration of the start of the campaign on Tuesday, November 16 at 1:30 p.m. in Alley Park which is located on the corner of Trenton and Natchitoches Streets in downtown West Monroe. The public is invited to attend.
Volunteers are currently being recruited to serve as bell ringers for the Red Kettle campaign, their largest fundraising effort of the year. Red kettles and volunteer bell ringers are posted annually outside of frequently visited storefronts to encourage monetary donations from the public.
The Angel Tree Project aims to provide Christmas gifts for 365 Northeast Louisiana families in need. Businesses are invited to host the trees and members of the public can “adopt an angel” by picking an angel ornament from the trees and filling an Angel Tree bag. Each angel ornament details a child’s holiday wish list, including pertinent information such as age, any hobbies, and clothing size. People can then fill the provided Angel Tree Bag with new, unwrapped gifts. Businesses and organizations interested in hosting an Angel Tree are asked to contact the Salvation Army.
The Salvation Army has partnered with Walmart to continue supporting the holiday campaign with red kettles, angel trees, and a new option for shoppers to round up their shopping ticket total to the nearest dollar online and in the Walmart mobile app.
