Alexey has packed out tents at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival as a featured regular since 2009. Originally from Havana, Cuba, Alexey began playing congas at age 7 and was later mentored by his neighbor Cuban Maestro Oscar Valdes of the famous group Irakere. He can also regularly be seen at the famed Snug Harbor Jazz Bistro in New Orleans. Alexey has won first place in the Thelonious Monk Jazz Institute’s Competition for his Afro-Latin hand-drumming technique. He also won the New Orleans Big Easy Music Award in Latin and World music categories in 2018 for Best Performer.
