Entry-Level Firefighter

The class of Firefighter comprises entrance level positions in the firefighting division of fire department operations. Employees of this class primarily receive training for tasks such as controlling and extinguishing fires, performing rescue work, and maintaining fire department equipment, building, and grounds. Such training may consist of formal classroom study and/or drill sessions, as well as closely supervised on-the-job experience. Employees of this class are supervised by fire captains and this class ranks directly below that of Fire Driver.


HOW TO APPLY:


 Step One

 
Apply to and pass a Civil Service Examination given by the State of Louisiana Office of State Examiner. You may take the test online. A study guide is provided on their website. Use the following link to register for the test: https://ose.louisiana.gov/jurisdictions/entry-level-firefighter/


Step Two


Obtain a job application for the Ouachita Parish Fire Department at https://ouachitafire.org/resources/jobs/.  Submit the completed application and required documentation to the Ouachita Parish Fire Department at 1000 New Natchitoches Rd., West Monroe, LA 71292 in person or by mail. You will be contacted by mail when we begin our hiring process. If your contact information changes, you are responsible for informing us. 


REQUIRED DOCUMENTS:

 
  • Passing Civil Service Test Score 
  • Valid Driver’s License 
  • U.S. Citizen with a Birth Certificate 
  • High School, College, or GED Diploma
