Arts Council Launches “mARTi Gras: Let the Good Times ART!” Community Mask Project

The Northeast Louisiana Arts Council is excited to announce the launch of mARTi

Gras: Let the Good Times ART!, a free, region-wide creative initiative inviting children and families to

celebrate Mardi Gras through hands-on artmaking. This year’s project is presented in partnership with

Twin Cities Krewe de Riviere, bringing together two beloved aspects of our community: arts

engagement and Carnival tradition.

The mARTi Gras Mask Project provides students with a printable Mardi Gras mask template that they

can color, paint, collage, or embellish however they wish. Masks may be decorated with crayons,

markers, feathers, sequins, ribbon, glitter, or any imaginative materials families or classrooms already

have on hand.

“This project is designed to be simple, accessible, and fun,” said the Arts Council team. “There’s no

competition involved - just a celebration of creativity, color, and cultural pride across Northeast

Louisiana.”

Teachers and parents can download the mask template and a full Teacher & Parent Guide from the Arts

Council’s website. The guide includes prompts, optional classroom extensions, and cultural conversation

starters that help connect students to Louisiana’s Mardi Gras heritage.

Families are encouraged to share their child’s finished mask by tagging @region8arts on Instagram or

Facebook, or by emailing a photo to abigail@nelarts.org. The Arts Council will feature student creations

on social media throughout Mardi Gras week.

This initiative is offered at no cost to educators, families, or schools. The Arts Council hopes the project

provides an easy way to continue arts engagement during a busy time of year while also honoring the

state’s rich Mardi Gras traditions.

“We’re thrilled to partner with Twin Cities Krewe de Riviere in celebrating the joy and creativity that

define Mardi Gras in our region,” the Arts Council shared. “Together, we’re inviting students to connect

with this season in a hands-on, imaginative way — and to let the good times ART.”
